Mohd Sany B. Ahmad, a weaver from Pahang, began his journey in traditional craftsmanship through his involvement at the Institut Tenun Pahang Diraja. His introduction to Telepuk happened during a workshop organised by Langkasuka Movement. The experience sparked a deep interest in the intricate processes involved. With a natural inclination towards hands-on craftsmanship since his youth, the exposure to Telepuk revealed a direction for his long-standing passion for traditional skills.
For Sany, Telepuk represents a craft that combines artistry, patience, and technical skill. Producing a Telepuk textile requires mastery across several processes, from weaving the base fabric to preparing the carved wood blocks, applying the adhesive, and carefully transferring gold onto the cloth. While he continues to refine these skills, Sany is particularly drawn to the meticulous nature of the work, where patience and genuine interest play an essential role. His first Telepuk piece, a pink beragi sarong, was created entirely by hand, reflecting his determination to understand and practise each stage of the process.
Sany views Telepuk as a rare heritage craft with strong aesthetic and cultural value. For him, the opportunity to contribute to reviving a centuries-old skill is both meaningful and rewarding. Through continued practice and exposure, he hopes more people, especially younger generations, will recognise the value of Telepuk and develop an interest in sustaining this unique heritage tradition.
